It is quite beautiful and worth going to see and swim in, but it is a bit difficult to reach, it may not be suitable for families with children or those over 60 years of age, you have to walk up and down a very long and steep hill.
I was born and raised on this island until I was 17 and migrated to the US in 1975 and lived in NY, NJ ever since. I visit the island every year at least once, and find out that improvements have been made to make Chios the best island to visit. Newly paved roads to remote villages and Byzantine monasteries, to natural pristine beaches, and mountainous terrains, that many years ago were not accessible to anyone. The food is amazing, and inexpensive if you know where to go. Mouria (Vrontados owned by George Psarras) is my favorite. Great homemade food and spectacular views, makes this place a must for excellent food. Stasi tou Anastasi also in Vrontados, phenomenal souvlaki and pork chop. The views truly amazing, If anyone wants to visit the remote areas and renting a car is not feasible, hiring a Taxi driver is the best way to go. Angelos Kountouriadis is the best tour guide. A visit to Nea Moni, Agiasmata, Agios Isidoros, Langatha, Komi. Agia Ermioni.Pyrgi the most unique village of Chios with incredible architecture and mastixa production. Mavra volia, Emporios beach. Not to be missed the South part of Chios where the mastic trees grow, the only place in the whole world. Buy some mastic liquor, and mastic moisturiser, and toothpaste, the best. So yes, Chios is worth visiting. April to November great weather too.
Lovely island! Not fancy. It has very unique villages. Some of the beaches are organized, most of them not. Food is always good in Greece. Mastic trees are worth seeing. And they have many kinds of products with mastic. You should try the liquor.
Historical island, v.large & mountainouso need a car 2c it. Beautiful Fort medieval villages, friendly locals, not inundated with tourism...yet! Lovely capital shopping area, pebbly beaches mostly, extraordinarily tight paths within village; b sure you CAN come out the other side b4 u enter. Interesting Mastik museum on side of hill above painted village, really worth visiting!
What a great island to visit. Chios offers a great variety of things to do in summer and winter. You must try the unique mastic and drink the local ouzo with great mezes. Lots of little villages with great beaches to visit. You don't want to miss the medieval castle of Mesta, Anavatos villages and the monastery of Nea Moni.......
